Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PWA and native app?

PWA (pacemind.app): The Progressive Web App runs in the browser on all devices. Perfect for quick access without installation. All core features available.

Native App (PaceMind Flow): The native iOS/Android app offers advanced features like offline mode, push notifications, better performance and deeper system integration.

Both use the same data – you can switch flexibly between both!

Which training platforms are supported?

PaceMind is hardware-independent and currently supports:

  • Polar: Fully integrated with Flow API
  • Suunto: Complete data access via Suunto App
  • Strava: All activities, splits and metrics
  • Withings: Sleep, heart rate, weight
  • Apple Health: Health data and workouts
  • Garmin: Coming soon

You can connect multiple platforms simultaneously!

How is the Training Stress Score (TSS) calculated?

TSS is calculated based on intensity and duration. PaceMind supports multiple methods:

  • HR-based (Banister): Uses heart rate data and TRIMP model
  • Pace-based (Daniels): For runners, based on VDOT and training intensity
  • Power-based (Coggan): For cyclists with power meter (FTP required)

A TSS of 100 equals about 1 hour at threshold intensity. PaceMind automatically selects the best available method.

What do CTL, ATL and TSB mean?

These metrics describe your training load:

  • CTL (Chronic Training Load): Your long-term fitness (42-day average). Higher = fitter.
  • ATL (Acute Training Load): Your short-term fatigue (7-day average). High values = high current load.
  • TSB (Training Stress Balance): Form = CTL - ATL. Positive values = recovered, negative values = fatigued.

Ideal for races: TSB between +5 and +15 (slightly recovered but fit).

How does auto-matching of planned workouts work?

PaceMind automatically matches completed activities with planned workouts based on:

  • TSS match (40%): How close are planned and actual TSS?
  • Duration (30%): Does the workout time match?
  • Activity type (20%): Same sport?
  • Date (10%): Completed on the planned day?

From 70% match onwards, automatic matching occurs. You can manually adjust matches.

How do I use injury management effectively?

Injury management helps you recognize patterns and practice prevention:

  • Record injury: As soon as complaints arise, document them with body region and severity
  • Check training load: PaceMind shows you the CTL/ATL development before the injury
  • Recognize patterns: Was there a sudden load increase? Too little recovery?
  • Receive warnings: PaceMind warns you proactively for similar patterns
  • Track healing: Mark injuries as healed when fully recovered
What does the AI Coach do and how reliable is it?

The AI Coach is an intelligent recommendation system that analyzes your training data:

  • Current form (TSB): Are you recovered or fatigued?
  • Sleep quality: How well did you sleep?
  • Resting heart rate & HRV: Signs of recovery or stress
  • Injury history: Active complaints or risk patterns
  • Training planning: What have you planned?

Important: The AI Coach is an assistance system, not a replacement for trainers or doctors. Use the recommendations as guidance and listen to your body!
